BASICS MADE TO PROTECT THE OCEAN, COASTS AND ENVIRONMENT

EMBRACING SLOWNESS AND TRANSPARENCY

KEY FACTS

THE CORE

Salzwasser does not want to create just another consumer good, but pursue a developmental mission and support environmental protection projects. At the same time, the reach of the brand is used to educate about the challenges and potentials of marine ecosystems. With their income Salzwasser supports environmental protection projects with a focus on marine and coastal or projects around the oceans.

THINK BUSINESS DIFFERENTLY.

"When companies and brands grow too rapidly to primarily polish up key business figures, much is lost along the way." That's why Salzwasser wants to stay true to themselves and their values, grow organically, self-financed and naturally. They think sustainability in the trinity of ecological, social and economic.

THE VISION

OUR SEAS AND COASTS NEED PROTECTION

Without the climate-regulating function of the ocean, our world would be different, above all it would be warmer. The ocean stores heat and CO2 in large quantities, thus slowing down climate change. Unfortunately, our seas are threatened. For example by microplastics, which represent 99% of the plastic waste in the ocean. A lot of them are released especially during private laundering of garments containing polyester. To protect the ocean the fashion industry and consumption need to change.

WEAR YOUR CONVICTION.

THE FOUNDERS

Salzwasser had started as a side project in 2014 before Jan and Lennart officially founded Salzwasser in November 2019, when they were both in their last semesters of studying. They believe that expectations of consumer goods must change. In terms of volume and speed, the textile industry has developed many things within Fast

Fashion to the negative. With Salzwasser, the founders encourage people to create a new relationship with ownership and to make "100% purchase decisions" for timeless, durable and high quality garments. As a matter of heart, they aim to raise awareness of the state of the oceans and seas and the challenges they face.

"ONLY IF I KNOW WHERE AND HOW MY CLOTHES ARE MADE, I CAN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY."

Transparency and traceability are an important part of a more sustainable textile industry. At company level: only if I know where I produce I can ensure and improve social and ecological standards locally. At the consumer level: if I know where and under what conditions my new favourite item was produced, I can take responsibility and reconsider my purchase decision. Salzwasser uses organic cotton, merino wool and recycled polyester for their timeless basics. Everything gets produced in Portugal.
